KEY ACHIEVEMENTS OF FUTURE-PRENEURS ZAMBIA (FPSZ)

Establishment of the Community-Based Natural Resource Governance Committee

FPSZ successfully conducted training workshops in Mufulira, Chingola, Kasempa and Kalumbila, where women and youths have been empowered with vital knowledge and skills in Natural Resource Governance and Climate Justice. This initiative was made possible through funding from ActionAid Zambia, with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

After the training in each district (Mufulira, Chingola, Kasempa and Kalumbila) FPSZ established the community based natural resource governance committees in the project targeted mining host communities. The main objective was to increase the participation of local communities, especially youths and women in decision-making processes related to natural resource management, ensuring that by 2026, at least 20% of community representatives get involved in natural resource management. These Community-based Natural Resource Governance Committees (CBNRGC) will be used as platforms for information dissemination and enhance public engagements with the project work.

Empowerment of Over 1,500 Youths and Women

FPSZ has successfully trained over 1,500 youths and women in various skills, including entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and leadership. These trainings have equipped participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to start and manage their businesses effectively, contributing to economic empowerment in their communities.

Increased Access to Land Rights for Women

Through advocacy and training programs, FPSZ has facilitated secure land tenure for over 300 women in rural areas. This achievement has empowered these women to invest in sustainable agricultural practices, enhancing food security and economic stability for their families.

Enhanced Social Accountability in Public Resource Management

FPSZ has established community monitoring groups across multiple districts, increasing transparency and accountability in the utilization of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and social protection programs. This initiative has led to improved project delivery and responsible use of public funds, benefiting local communities.

Successful Implementation of Climate-Resilient Agricultural Practices

FPSZ has introduced climate-resilient agricultural techniques to over 400 households, significantly improving their crop yields and food security. Participants have adopted sustainable farming practices that reduce environmental impact while increasing productivity.

Strengthened Advocacy for Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) Rights

FPSZ has played a crucial role in advocating for the rights of ASM workers and promoting responsible mining practices. This advocacy has led to improved working conditions and increased dialogue between local miners and government authorities, ensuring that miners’ voices are heard in policy discussions.

Promotion of Gender Equality in Social Protection Programs

FPSZ has successfully advocated for the inclusion of women in social protection programs, resulting in increased access to the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) and Food Security Pack (FSP) for hundreds of women in vulnerable communities. This has enhanced their economic security and overall well-being.
